After moving to Ridgefield in 2020 during COVID I knew if I was going to make time for my own work, it had to be something that got me back to making art. I was terrified to join the RAA at first because I thought it would be stuffy or unwelcoming. Boy, was I wrong! I immediately felt at home and was included in so many projects. My feedback was welcomed, I’ve made so many friends in and out of the arts, and volunteering in different projects through the RAA has made this little town feel like home. I know my barista by name and how much she enjoys encouraging young artists. I’ve met people who are real life heroes, just walking around making other people’s lives more beautiful. Not to mention my practice has improved four fold. Last year I was afraid to hang work in the library show. Now, I work at this everyday, sell portraits weekly, make my own personal work, and I’m going to help open a gallery and use all my skills from so many careers to help artists here succeed too.
